Welcome to Gilles Photography.

When I was creating this website and I began to pick photos to put in the galleries I had a hard time deciding what you would want to see from my extensive library of photos. It wasn't until I started to examine my own selection of photos that I began to see a trend...each of the photos I picked was special to me.

Each one had a story and each story had to be told. Each photo was a glimpse into something in my life that was important and needed to be shared with the rest of the world. As I began to narrow down the list and these special photos came down a final few I could instantly recall the story behind that photo that made it so special.

On the streets of Chicago in 2009 I met a photographer on the subway, his name was Marcus. Marcus told me that he had been photographing cities for as long as he could remember. He told me that as he went through his photos at the end of the day, if the photo did not have a special meaning to him, he deleted it and never thought about it again.

Marcus said the best photos are the ones that tell a story and when someone looks at it they can see the story even though they do not know the words. Marcus got off the subway train and I have yet to find his photography on the internet, but his words stuck with me.

As I said before, each photo here tells a story and I hope you will find your own story behind each one.
